What porcelain is
Porcelain slabs are made from fine clays and minerals pressed and fired at very high temperatures. The result is a dense, non-porous surface that shrugs off heat, stains and sunlight, in large, thin slabs that work for countertops, waterfall ends, backsplashes and walls.
It takes skill to fabricate. Porcelain is cut and finished differently from quartz and granite, which is why it matters that it’s handled by an experienced shop. Ours is in Kitchener, and our own crews install it.

Porcelain edge options
Bullnose and ogee profiles usually aren’t cut on porcelain: many slabs carry their pattern on the surface, so shaping the edge would expose the plainer body underneath. A mitred edge keeps the pattern wrapping around the front.

Good to know before you choose porcelain
Everyday care
- Clean with warm water and a mild cleaner.
- No sealing needed.
- Use cutting boards to protect knives and the finish.
Edges and corners
Porcelain is very hard, but a sharp knock on an edge or corner can chip it. Eased or mitred edges are the usual choice, and we’ll suggest the profile that suits your layout.
Pattern through the body
Some porcelain carries its pattern through the slab; on others it sits on the surface. That affects which edges look best, so ask us about the specific product you like.
Inside and out
Porcelain is UV-stable and handles heat, so it’s one of the best options for outdoor kitchens, sunrooms and fireplace surrounds.
Porcelain countertop questions
Still have a question? Call (519) 894-1991 or see all our answers.
Is porcelain good for outdoor kitchens in Ontario?
Yes. Porcelain is UV-stable, non-porous and handles heat, which makes it one of the best choices for outdoor kitchens and covered patios. Ask us about edge details for exposed corners.
Does a porcelain countertop need sealing?
No. Porcelain is non-porous, so it doesn’t absorb stains and never needs sealing. Clean it with warm water and a mild cleaner.
Can porcelain chip?
Porcelain is very hard and scratch-resistant, but a sharp impact on an edge or corner can chip it. We help you choose edge profiles that suit how you use the space.
What porcelain brands do you carry?
Our selection includes Infinity Stone, Cosentino Dekton and RG Stone. Visit a showroom to see samples, or ask us about a specific colour.
